SHIPWRECKED

God’s Acts

Randy and I looked at each other that day and said, “Well, now, we both have no jobs to pay our bills and survive this life, but somehow, I know it will be okay…for God is with us. He will provide a way out.” And He did.

All of us have those moments when we feel all could be “lost at sea” in the storms that rise up in our lives. But trusting a God who created all, is in all, and knows exactly what we need before we even know we need it, is crazy faith. Crazy faith is what Paul had. Even as a prisoner on his “cruise ship” to Rome to appeal to Caesar, as Jesus promised he would, he trusted God. Mere men made bad decisions along the way. They were in too much of a hurry to get where they were going. They should have pulled into a safe harbor for the winter, but did not. Even THEN God still protected them because His will for Paul was going to be accomplished. God sent an angel to Paul to reassure him and to pass this assurance along to the crew…

Acts 27, The Message
“Don’t give up, Paul. You’re going to stand before Caesar yet–and everyone sailing with you is also going to make it.”

“So dear friends, take heart. I believe God will do exactly what he told me. But we’re going to shipwreck on some island or other.”

And they did. God said it and it happened. Shipwrecked. God protected them when the human construction of wood, metal and tar smashed apart and washed away in the storm. Every person either swam for shore or grabbed a piece of that wreckage and paddled to shore. EVERY PERSON MADE IT, just as God said. They were met on the island of Malta by friendly folks who brought them near a huge bonfire to warm up their wet and weary bodies. Storm over. God arms welcomed them with warmth, mercy and His grace through the natives of Malta. Wow, what a God we have! What kind of love is this?

Even though a bad decision was made on the way to Rome, God made all things turn out for good and for His glory. (Rom 8:28) He does that every time when we trust Him and obey Him.

Dear Heavenly Father, We have crazy faith in You! You are God and we are not. Our complete focus is on You and Your acts that still occur in our own lives and in the lives of those around us. We pray for all to know You, to trust You and to grow in relationship with You. Thank you for seeing us through even when we make bad decisions that make life a little harder. We know You are always with us. Thank you, Lord.
In Jesus Name, Amen. I believe.
