God’s Acts

Today is a beautiful, crisp, sunny fall morning. I praise God for this day He as made. Aren’t there days you want to just stand in awe of God, to praise Him for what He has done and is doing in your life? Even in circumstances that you know might turn ugly at any moment, there are days like these, times like these, when You just want to stand still and praise God. That is this morning for me. There is a lot that we have placed on our plates to accomplish, but I am returning that plate of human stuff, full of my agenda, back to God. What would you have us do today? What is Your will for this day?

After a hard road of ministry, Paul arrives in Jerusalem. He is greeted by good friends, co-ministers of the Good News. “All the church leaders were there” when Paul testified of what God has been doing among the Gentiles.

It is good to pause in this story to praise God and not skim over this paragraph for it is a lesson unto itself. Don’t forget to praise God in detail for all the details He has helped us through in our own lives.

Acts 21, The Message
17-19 In Jerusalem, our friends, glad to see us, received us with open arms. The first thing next morning, we took Paul to see James. All the church leaders were there. After a time of greeting and small talk, Paul told the story, detail by detail, of what God had done among the non-Jewish people through his ministry. They listened with delight and gave God the glory.

They listened with delight! His friends were not jealous of Paul’s accomplishments with God with Him directing him. They listened with delight! Here is the lesson…Do we really listen to each other’s God stories of what He has done in our lives and what we have learned or are we concentrating more on what we will tell in response? Not only did they listen, the gave God the glory! No comparing one life to another. The church reveled in the good that was happening and praised God for it all! I love that!

Then Paul listened to the what was happening in Jerusalem…

Acts 21, The Message
20-21 They had a story to tell, too: “And just look at what’s been happening here—thousands upon thousands of God-fearing Jews have become believers in Jesus!

More praises to God. Then, as predicted, it got ugly…

Acts 21, The Message
But there’s also a problem because they are more zealous than ever in observing the laws of Moses. They’ve been told that you advise believing Jews who live surrounded by unbelieving outsiders to go light on Moses, telling them that they don’t need to circumcise their children or keep up the old traditions. This isn’t sitting at all well with them.

Sigh, along with the good there is the inevitable bad stuff because we live in a fallen world. But God sees us through it all. There is obviously more to this story, but could we just stop and praise the Lord for Who He is, for what He has done and is doing in our lives and in the lives of those around us?

Let’s just praise the Lord! (And I’m singing…)

Dear Heavenly Father, Help us to be more attentive to Your stories in others lives and give You praise for all you do for them as well as what You are doing in and through us. In good times and bad, we praise You and give You thanks. For You are God and we are not. We lay our lives in Your hands, even this day at this hour. Do what You will. Lead us. I’m listening…with delight!
In Jesus Name, Amen
