GROWING PAINS

God Acts…

Where two or three are gathered as Scripture says, I will be in the midst of them, says our Lord and Savior. Unfortunately, also where two or three are gathered, differing opinions will arise and there will be misunderstandings and arguments. Consider where two or three thousand are gathering! It doesn’t matter the size of our church.

There were problems as the church of God grew, so the apostles stopped preaching long enough to handle the problem well. When our churches grow, problems along the way will occur. misunderstandings bring fear of unknown and mistrust. Problems like these need to be dealt with quickly with care, wisdom, insight and understanding. Cry out for it and God will provide with people He has chosen who will bring peace.

Acts 6, The Message
The Choosing of the Seven
6 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews[a] among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. 6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

What do we learn?
–Problems can be dealt with prayer to God the Father who gives wisdom for every situation…if we listen.
–God calls people to provide exactly what is needed for every circumstance.

Reflection: Do we trust Him to do that in our church? In our lives?

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for reminding us to trust You for every situation that seems problematic to us. You already have the answer before the problem even arises! So we will trust in You to guide and direct our lives with people You have chosen. Thank you for being with us. In Jesus Name, Amen
